The Food Police

The Food Police

A couple of days ago when I encountered another diabetic eating a sweet treat I asked if that was good for them to be eating.  My question was answered with a question…. “who do you think you are, the food police.”  Even though I responded “no”, I issued myself a reminder ticket anyway.  The reminder that each one of us are on our own personal journey with diabetes.  I welcome all those who would like to join me along the way.

Each of us are unique in the way we are made, and diabetes affect us all in a different way.  We can’t enforce or govern the choices others make, we can only encourage.  I choose to encourage by example and maybe a story or two. I will encourage with consistency and balance, by being diligent and then maybe, just maybe others will be encouraged to take care of themselves.

DIABETES ROULETTE

I’m reminded daily that diabetes is a worthy opponent to good health.  As grateful as I am for good health, I can’t help but think of the “what ifs”.  The what ifs are my constant reminder to choose a healthy lifestyle.  I’ve seen and experience too much to play what I call diabetes roulette.  Growing up my grandmother, my mother and one of my aunts were diabetic.  I have several other close relatives who are diabetic.  My husband lost a life-long friend after amputation who was diabetic, and recently one of our nieces passed away shortly after her 50th birthday.  She was also diabetic and an amputee.

I understand life is full of uncertainties, however I believe each day when we wake up we’re given a new chance and opportunity to do better, to be better to live better.  I welcome you and I hope you’ll join me on my journey to live life as a diligent diabetic.
